Planes
Planes are used to smoothly and precisely remove material from a wooden surface, such as the edge of a door. Both the depth and alignment of cut can be adjusted on a single-blade block planes to provide a perfect finish. Surform planes work somewhat differently. Although they feature a single blade shaped from one piece of metal, it is perforated to create a series of small, angular teeth. These remove many small pieces of wood rather than long slivers, making it possible to remove material faster.
