A cottage garden favourite, they look spectacular planted en masse in the summer border and will provide a carpet of colour. The colourful blooms are trumpet or funnel shaped and produce a wonderfully sweet scent when they flower, from July. Ideal cut flowers.

• Planting location: Beds, borders or in patio pots
• Soil moisture: Moist & well drained, Soil pH: Any
• Flowering period: July - September, Planting period: February - April
• Hardiness: H2 - Tolerant of low temperatures, but not surviving being frozen (1 to 5°C)
• Plant in a sunny spot. Dig soil improver and bonemeal into the planting hole before planting. In heavy clay soils add horticultural grit to the bottom of the planting hole. For a summer -long display, plant at intervals of 7-10 days. Do not attempt to plant these bulbs if the ground is frozen or during freezing conditions When the foliage has died back, usually after the first frost, cut stems back to 5cm above soil level. Not winter hardy. To over-winter, dig up the corms and store them in a cool, dry and frost-free place. Replant in the same way next year.
