| The Key to all Successful Painting is Preparation. |
How to prepare wood for painting:
Remove dirt and grease.
Remove all loose, flaking materials from the surfaces to be decorate.
Scrape or sand down all bits and lumps.
Fill holes and cracks with suitable fillers.
With previous paintwork surfaces always wash down with hot water and sugar soap. Never ever use household aerosol spray cleaners.
On good paintwork rub down with fine sandpaper or a wet and dry abrasive type paper, this will give the new paint a key or solid base.
On the likes of very badly damaged, cracked, bubbled or very old paintwork. Either burn off or use a chemical stripper and take back to the bare wood.
