Ask The Doctor
Question: Spray Painting
What precautions will I need to take as next Saturday, myself and a friend are going to spray paint the front of my house.

Answer

On exteriors, if conditions are windy, angle the spray pattern into the wind to avoid drifting.
Always work from ground upwards towards the roof.
Never ever attempt to spray if the wind is any way excessive.
When spraying with a shield hold it firmly against the surface.
Angle the gun slightly away from the shield and towards the target surface. This will prevent paint from being forced underneath your shield.
Shrubs next to houses should be tied back and covered with dust sheets.
A spray gun extension may be useful can be used to reach awkward areas.
All vehicles should be moved or covered whenever in the vicinity of a spray job.
