Question: Floor LevelingI have just had a new conservatory built the floor is a concrete screed finished floor. We were thinking of laying down tiles ourselves on this floor can you advise me on this project. |
Answer Firstly congratulations on your newly installed conservatory I
hope you enjoy same.
First check that your concrete conservatory floor is entirely free
from dust and any flaking, or loose material. If the surface is not
absolutely flat, if there any visual bumps and depressions, this
surface will need attention before laying any type of tiles, I would
recommend, that you apply a self-leveling floor screed compound.
This can be bought in bags from a builder's merchants or local DIY
outlets. It usually comes in a bucket or drum of latex liquid with
which the powder is mixed to produce an easy flowing creamy consistent
liquid. You then start to pour the liquid onto the floor and pushed
the solution around with a plasterers trowel until it self levels. The
liquid will now start filling in any small depressions leaving a
perfectly flat, smooth surface.
It is not necessary to seal this surface and it gives excellent
adhesion to all types of flooring adhesives.
